Is Apple’s Passbook ready for the major league?

I was excited to head out to the ballpark last week to see the Giants play.  They lost, but there’s nothing quite like sitting in the bleachers during a sunny day game to soak up the atmosphere.

I opted to use Apple’s passbook to get my tickets delivered electronically to my phone: one less thing to remember I reasoned.  I sucked up the  $6 “convenience fee” on top of the $20 ticket — seems pretty inconvenient to me. But that’s not my point here. My point is that this “electronic ticket” is a sham. It’s not a ticket at all. When you get to the turnstyle they scan your phone and print out a, yes you’ve got it, a PAPER TICKET. Now you have a flimsy bit of paper you have to keep track of. Come on guys, if the passbook ticket is good enough to scan at the gate, it should be good enough to show the ushers! So much for a paperless world. We just simply keep moving who prints the bit of paper around!  Come on Apple and MLB — get Passbook ready for the major league!
